Longwood Community Connections Committee Hosts Successful MLK Unity Walk!
Post
In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the District’s Community Connections Committee proudly hosted the Annual Unity Walk on Saturday, January 18, 2025, bringing together hundreds of participants for a meaningful celebration of diversity, peace, and solidarity.
Longwood Board of Education members, Superintendent Dr. Lohman, district leaders, faculty, staff, students, community members, and local representatives gathered at Coram Elementary School to walk a half mile together to the Coram Fire Department. This symbolic walk reflected a shared commitment to unity and the values Dr. King supported.
The event began with a warm welcome by Dr. Vaughn Denton, Assistant Superintendent for Pupil Personnel and Community Services, followed by remarks from Board President Victoria Molloy. “Today, we unite and reflect on Dr. King’s enduring legacy and reaffirm our commitment to his dream of unity, equality, and justice,” said Mrs. Molloy. “Our Annual Unity Walk is more than a symbolic gesture; it is a shared journey toward fostering an inclusive and compassionate community.”
Highlights of the event included powerful musical performances by students and inspiring artwork displays honoring Dr. King’s principles of non-violence and peace. The program concluded with fellowship and a renewed pledge to embrace unity and diversity within our community.
We sincerely thank Senator Dean Murray, Assemblyman Joe DeStefano, Assemblywoman Rebecca Kassay, Legislator Dominick Thorne, and representatives from the offices of Legislators Caracappa and Lennon for their presence and support.
A special acknowledgment goes to the District’s Community Connections Committee and all those who contributed to the success of this impactful event:
