IMPORTANT ARRIVAL/DISMISSAL INFORMATION

Charles E. Walters School
15 Everett Drive
Yaphank, N.Y. 11980

Student Drop Off
For those parents who wish to drive their children to school, please be aware of the fact that
there is no childcare program at this site. If it is necessary to bring your child to school,
please plan to arrive no earlier than 9:15 a.m. Drop off is located at the Everett Drive entrance for the intermediate center students.

Student Pick Up
The school day ends at 3:25 p.m. In order to maximize instruction, we ask that parents make every effort to schedule appointments and extra curricular activities at the conclusion of the school day. Prior to 3:00 p.m.parents may go to the office to sign their child out. Your child will be sent or escorted to the office to meet you. If you wish to have your child picked up by someone else, please include that individual’s name on the sign-out card.

Parent Pick Ups
During the school day, parents can go to the office in each building to sign their child out of school.

After 3:00 p.m. parents must go to the multipurpose room to sign their child out. It will not be possible to walk through the building to enter the multipurpose room. Parents are asked to use the exterior entrance to each room. Students in grades K & 1 will be sent to the Primary Building Multipurpose room and students in grades 2, 3 & 4 will be sent to the Intermediate Building Multipurpose room.

****Please bring personal identification with you when you pick your child up. No child will be released to a parent/guardian without providing any I.D.****

Any individual picking up a child whether at dismissal or during the school day, must be listed on the child’s sign-out card. This includes all parents and/or guardians.

If you are planning to pick up your child, please send a note in with your child that morning.

Should an emergency situation arise in which you need to pick up your child at school, please call the office in the building where your child attends class as soon as possible. Keep in mind the fact that students will begin boarding their buses at 3:25 p.m. and the buses leave at approximately 3:40 p.m. To allow ample time to prepare and deliver a “Paren t Pick up Pass” to your child’s class, we ask that you notify the school prior to 2:30 p.m. if you are coming to pick your child up.

Students who have not been picked up by their parent/guardian by the time buses are ready to be dismissed will be placed on their bus. Therefore, if you cannot reach the school before 3:25 p.m., please go directly to your child’s bus stop.

Parents, grandparents, and other child care providers have been arriving at the school as late as 3:25 p.m. (with no prior notification) asking to sign children out. Classes are exiting the building for dismissal at that time. Often these individuals do not have identification and do not know what class and/or what bus the child is in. Locating a teacher who has exited the building with their class and bringing a child to a parent in the multipurpose room, delays the dismissal of over 800 children. Once children have begun boarding buses, dismissal will not be delayed to locate and remove a student from the bus. Therefore, parents arriving after 3:20 p.m. (with no prior notification) will be asked to go directly to the bus stop to pick up their child.

Parking
To facilitate the safe arrival and dismissal of students from 9:15 – 9:45 am and 3:15 – 3:45 pm, cars will not be permitted to park in parking lot in front of the Intermediate Center.

The circle in front of the Primary Center is a bus and emergency access lane; therefore, “No Parking” will be permitted in that area at any time.
