Coram Students Collect Bottles For ALS ResearchStudents in Laura LeGrady’s class at Coram Elementary School are giving Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) patients hope for a cure.

Only two years ago, third-grader Abigail Risotto lost her dad to ALS.  To honor his memory, Abigail’s classmates collected and recycled hundreds of water bottles to support a cure for ALS. The students also gathered change from family and friends.

Using child-friendly materials, the students learned about the disease and how their contributions would support research programs to expedite the discovery of treatments. Throughout November, the students contributed more than $100 to the ALS Association.

Abigail was thrilled with the results.

“I can’t believe we did this with just change and bottles,” she said.  “This cause is so important to me, and I'm so happy that we can help out.”
