Longwood Schools “Start With Hello” to Promote Inclusiveness
Posted on 10/08/2019
Longwood Schools “Start With Hello” to Promote InclusivenessElementary students throughout the Longwood School community participated in a weeklong, national initiative to promote inclusivity and end social isolation.

From September 23-27, the district joined thousands of schools from across the country to participate in Start With Hello, a program that promotes acceptance, respect, and compassion. Created by the Sandy Hook Promise, Start With Hello is led by family members who lost loved ones at the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting on December 14, 2012.

Throughout the week, students took part in meaningful activities that empowered them to create a culture of connectedness within their school walls and the broader community. Students took the Start With Hello Pledge, participated in the “Kindness” and “Find Someone Who” games, wore name tags, participated in Random Acts of Kindness and Helping Hands, and ate lunch with new friends!

Start With Hello teaches students the skills they need to reach out to and include those who may be dealing with chronic social isolation.
